In this blessed season of the fast of the Holy Nativity we spend the Coptic month of Kiahk in praises and in watchfulness preparing for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ as the world two thousand years ago received the Lord through the mystery of the incarnation. We spend 40 days in fasting and prayers in preparation to receive the Living Word, the Logos, as Moses the prophet fasted forty days on the mountain to receive the written law, the Ten Commandments. In addition we remember the great miracle performed by the Lord Jesus Christ on Muqattam mountain in the 10th century Egypt when the mountain was moved by the faith of the church with the support of the faith and prayers of St. Simon the Tanner.
Let us spend this season with a spirit of prayer and watchfulness to received the Word of God into our hearts and to present Him to the whole world as the blessed Theotokos did in the mystery of the Incarnation.
