Basic Spiritual Practices by Fr. Antonios Baky

This past Sunday during the sermon, Fr. Antonios called for all of us to strive at least for some basic spiritual practices. With God’s grace we can as a church and individuals get closer to our Father in Heaven.

Every day…

let us commit to praying the 1st (Prime, Bakr) and 12th hours (Compline, Noum) of the Agpeya Prayer Book of Hours and read 1 chapter from the Bible. They do not all need to be at the same time. For example, the 1st hour can be done early in the morning when we wake up. Read a chapter in the middle of the day and pray the 12th hour at night after dinner or before sleeping. There is obviously no required time limits; these practices would probably only take us 15 minutes each. God gave us 1440 minutes in the day… we can give him at least 45 (3%) of them.

Every week…

let us commit to pray at least 1 liturgy and participate in 1 spiritual meeting so that we can be filled.

Every month…

let us give our tithes and practice the sacrament of repentance and confession.
Glory be to God forever, Amen.
